U.S. Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy Visits The Harpswell Foundation
August 3, 2020: Harpswell students and staff met with U.S. Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy and his family. The visit began with brief and warm welcome remarks by Country Director Moul Samneang, followed by student introductions. The students gave a brief overview of Harpswell including community spirit, English classes, computer classes, critical thinking discussion classes, and the Alumnae House. Following the introductions, Ambassador Murphy gave a short speech about the relationship between Cambodia and the U.S., and then he and his family took questions from the students. Some of the questions included:
What do you miss the most about the U.S while you’re away from home?
What are some of your leadership principles?
The Ambassador wrapped up the visit with some words of wisdom:
As a leader, we should have respect, be ethical, model good behaviors, “Walk the Talk”, and have good judgment.
Over 60 percent of the population in Cambodia is young, so while you respect your elders, contribute solutions to the problems now, not in the future.
