Harpswell Partners with Obama Foundation to #GetHerThere

November 3, 2022: Around the world, more than 100 million girls are not in school. At Harpswell, we know that these girls are future change makers. That’s why we were thrilled when the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance (GOA) reached out to partner on #GetHerThere, a global campaign to show how the world improves for all of us when girls get the opportunities they deserve. Who better to demonstrate this truth than Harpswell’s incredible students?

On International Day of the Girl (Oct. 6), current Harpswell students Sreytouch, Serey and Srey Mach were featured in the #GetHerThere campaign launch. We encourage you to watch this inspiring video here:

In late October, GOA invited Harpswell graduate Ly Sokanha ‘19 and Cambodia Country Director Moul Samneang to participate in the #GetHerThere gathering, a two-day conference in New York City. Participants heard from speakers like Michelle Obama, Amal Clooney, Melinda Gates, and of course inspiring young women from around the world who know first-hand the power of education.

I made meaningful connections with women from different parts of the world working on the ground to help girls access education. I learned about the unique challenges faced in each country and the power of collaboration to address those issues.
— Ly Sokanha (2019)

Harpswell is proud to work each and every day to ensure that young women have the opportunities they deserve to become the leaders we need. Harpswell is grateful to the Obama Foundation and Girls Opportunity Alliance for their continued partnership. We hope that like us, you are inspired to #GetHerThere.
