Harpswell Receives Grant Through The Asia Foundation to Advance Girls’ Education

October 11, 2020: We are excited to announce that the Harpswell Foundation received a grant through The Asia Foundation to provide scholarships to 15 young women from low-income backgrounds and impoverished areas in Cambodia. This five-year program will support the entire incoming class of Harpswell first-year university students to pursue their undergraduate studies in STEM and humanities. The scholarships will cover the cost of tuition, school fees, room and board, books, educational materials, and any required technical equipment or materials.

We are delighted to continue our longstanding partnership with The Asia Foundation through this generous grant to support our entire incoming class of future leaders. Harpswell is fortunate to be able to continue to rely on its staunch supporters during this time, when girls’ education and gender equity are more important than ever. Since opening its first dormitory in 2006, the Harpswell Foundation has supported more than 180 university women to pursue undergraduate degrees at more than 18 different universities in Phnom Penh and further develop their leadership skills. Harpswell graduates have gone on to pursue careers in a variety of fields including law, public service, and education. Graduates have also pursued post-graduate degrees abroad through programs such as the Open Society Fellowship, Obama Scholars, Knight-Hennessy Scholars and Fulbright.
