Harpswell Welcomes The Class of 2024
February 20, 2021: We are excited to announce the arrival of the Harpswell Class of 2024. The 16 new students arrived with their parents at TT Dorm bright and early. Current students, alumnae, and staff were on hand to welcome them, provide a tour of the dorm, and answer questions.
Country Director Moul Samneang kicked off the event by welcoming the students and their families, followed by a traditional welcome dance performance by our students. Harpswell Founder Alan Lightman and Executive Director Alison Pavia joined from the U.S. and expressed their thanks to the parents for putting their trust in Harpswell. A representative from The Asia Foundation was also onsite to welcome the new students.*
Harpswell staff discussed dorm rules and policies with the students and their parents and answered questions. A fourth-year student shared her experience at Harpswell to give students and parents a better understanding of life in the dorms. A representative from the Harpswell Alumnae Association also talked to the students and parents about the meaning of a Harpswell education and the importance of the Harpswell sisterhood.
Finally, we got to the most exciting part of the event: dorm assignments and the room selection lottery. As each new student read out their room pick, screams followed with hugs as current students welcomed the students assigned to their rooms. After the dorm assignments, students and parents signed matriculation agreements. The event wrapped up with lunch made by staff and students and group photos.
*Harpswell received a grant through The Asia Foundation to provide Harpswell scholarship support to the Harpswell Class of 2024.
